Hand deckled refers to paper that has been hand cut or torn to create a feathery edge to the paper. This vintage looking imperfection to the paper was largely caused by the fact that paper was cut by hand with knives prior to mechanized printing. It gives a handmade look to artwork that you can't achieve with something mass produced.
